What are the Best General Interest Journals in Political Science?
Political scientists have designed this site as an outlet for their colleagues to share their experiences--both positive and negative--with submitting to or reading scholarly political science journals. Postings aim to promote more consistent adherence to an ethical code by journals and their contributors, an improved review process experience, and a superior product for readers.

The Anglo-Saxon polisci world will probably read Perspectives on Politics or PS: Political Science & Politics like polisci quasi-magazines.
And how are these supposed to be read?
I must refute 6:37. I'm unaware of many in the academic IR or Comparative realms that regularly read PoP, or consider sending their work there on a priority basis. It's generally considered a second tier general interest journal on top of the fact that "general interest" implies a broader spectrum of work than offered there. Journal of Politics or American Journal of Political Science offer a more robust variety than PoP, with better work.
Of note, I'm aware of several manuscripts recently withdrawn from PoP due to excessive time in review, and a non-compliant editorial staff/office (they don't respond to emails/phone calls for status requests after +6 months in review).
I concur with 3:48. Nothing but bad experiences with Perspectives on Politics. Wait until James Johnson is no longer Editor (two years?), before you send anything to PoP. A waste of a potentially good outlet.
Giles, Garand et al. have a new 2007 survey ranking of journals posted here:
http://www.nuffield.ox.ac.uk/Politics/papers/2008/McLean%20Blais%20Giles%20and%20Garand%20(April%202008).pdf
The top journals haven't changed much from their 2003 survey (of U.S. based scholars) reported in P.S. But once you drop down some, the rankings have changed for a number of journals.
